In short

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the exchange of strictly structured messages between computers without human intervention. The figure shows the business processes in which EDI connections are most commonly used.

How Techwave can help?

The essence of the solution is that the separate IT systems (ERP systems) can be connected with the help of an intermediate software - and in the absence of a direct LAN connection - an external service provider. This is how one-way or two-way data transmission takes place.

External service providers that allow data exchange are referred to in the common IT language as “EDI providers” or “EDI providers”.  provider ”, which provide a secure internet platform for data exchange. It should be noted that in addition to data exchange, these service providers typically also ensure the legal compliance of electronic invoicing.

For the purpose of EDI data exchange,  iDOC  (Intermediate  Document) format is used by the SAP system.  iDOC  technology is characterized by a high level of support for automation,  monitoring  and error correction capability in the standard SAP R / 3 system. There is a separate standard for industry-specific solutions e.g. in the automotive industry, the pharmaceutical industry, or the trade.

The process of implementing an EDI connection

  1. identification of documents for electronic data interchange (eg receipt of a sales order, customer     send invoice, send purchase order)

  2. identification of the partner companies involved

  3. selection of data transmission technology

    • file based communication

    • EDI provider selection

  4. agreeing the necessary data content with the parties

  5. determining and performing data conversions as needed

  6. setting up the SAP system

  7. data transfer testing involving all partners

  8. customer - side education, which covers  for monitoring  and also for error correction
